The purpose of this lesson is to identify the signs of the last days.
Matthew 24:4-8 NLT 4 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world? Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, 5 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. 7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. 8 But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
We are the "last days" generation. In Acts 2:17, God promises that He would pour out His Spirit on all people. We are living in that time; and in our world, we see several signs that reveal to us that Jesus is soon to return. Revelation 22:20 states that as we see the signs, our response should be, "Amen! Come Lord Jesus!" Our hearts and lives should be excited and ready for his return.
Q1- Knowing that Jesus is soon to come, how should we live our lives?
Q2- Do you think people are aware of the "last days" signs?
Q3- As Christians, what role do we play in these "last days?"
Sign #1 - Religious leaders will come claiming to be the Christ.
Matthew 24:5 …for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’
Q4- The Bible says that the "anti-christ" spirit is already in the world (1 John 4:3). How do we see this spirit in operation today?
Q5- Why do you think several people are followingafter these self-proclaimed "Christs?" What is their appeal?
Sign #2 - Wars and threats of wars
Matthew 24:6-7 …And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There are wars occurring all over the world. The biggest war is currently in Syria, and ISIS has attacked over 90 times in various nations, posing a global threat. Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world.
Q6- Are Christians in America asleep?
Q7- How would the American church look different if there was a sense of urgency?
Sign #3 - Famines and Earthquakes
Matthew 24:7-8 …there will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
Q8- As Christians, how can we respond to the disaster and famine that we see in our world?
Declaration: I declare that I am fully awake! I recognize the signs, and I respond by saying, "Amen! Come Lord Jesus!" I declare that I will live a life that is ready for his return. I will heed the warnings, and I will warn others of His return. I am determined to pray for the nations of the World; and as He pours out His Spirit, I will live a life that is poured out for the Kingdom of God!
