Icebreaker: What are you expecting during this Anniversary week celebration?

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to continue to celebrate Fathers and discover how vital the role of a father is.

Main Scripture
His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse. (Malachi 4:6 NLT)

Discussion
God is our wonderful Father! He is our ultimate example and He is the one after which we can pattern our lives. He has a unique call on men, to duplicate His character and attributes in the earth. When men are in position, families, communities, and nations thrive.

Q1 - Discuss quickly your relationship with your father; how has this impacted your life?

Q2- Why do you think the enemy fights so hard against fathers?

Q3 - What can wives/daughters/mothers do to support the men in their lives?

Why is the Role of a Father so Important?

God uses fathers to be a source of blessing to their children.

Genesis  27:1-5 One day when Isaac was old and turning blind, he called for Esau, his older son, and said, “My son.”“Yes, Father?” Esau replied. “I am an old man now,” Isaac said, “and I don’t know when I may die. Take your bow and a quiver full of arrows, and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me. Prepare my favorite dish, and bring it here for me to eat. Then I will pronounce the blessing that belongs to you, my firstborn son, before I die.” But Rebekah overheard what Isaac had said to his son Esau.

Q4 - Discuss the importance of the father's blessing in Biblical times?

Q5- How does this same blessing apply to us today and who gives this blessing?

Fathers are trainers

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God's wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Q6- Why is a father's perspective important when training children?

Q7-  What can women do if there isn't a father in the home to train their children?

Fathers set the pattern

Romans 5:12 When Adam sinned sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Q8- Why is it important for fathers to know that they are pattern setters in their families?

Q9 - How can men set a new pattern for their families, if there was an ungodly pattern previously?

Declaration

Men: I declare that I am a Godly man. I am not subject to my past. Every ungodly generational curse is broken off my family in Jesus Name. I will duplicate his pattern in the earth! God is my father, and I will show his love to my children (future children). I will serve God all the days of my life, and I will bring Glory to His Name.

Women:  I declare that I am a Godly woman! I will love, support, and cherish the men in my life! I will work hard to see that a Godly heritage is passed to my family. Every ungodly generational curse is broken off my family in Jesus Name.

Application:

Pray for the men in your life this week: Fathers, husbands, sons, pastors, leaders etc. Pray that they stand in the face of adversity and become all that God has called them to be.
