Icebreaker

Did you make goals/resolutions at the beginning of the year? If so, how are you doing with them?

Main Scripture:

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Discussion:

Today we will be discussing the way we can pursue our God given purpose. There are 3 ways we can begin pursuing our purpose. First, realize you have a purpose. Second, you must be guided by the word. Finally, you must be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Let’s talk about what the word says about our purpose.

Q1 - How does Romans 8:28 change your perspective about the difficult things that happen in your life?

Q2 - Have someone read James 1:2. Why should we consider trials an opportunity for joy?

1. Realize I have Purpose

1 Timothy 1:9 NIV He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

Purpose: something set up as an object or end to be attained; intention; resolution; determination)

Q3 - According to 1 Timothy 1:9, are we able to earn our purpose from God? If not, then why do you think we sometimes still try?

Q4 - What are the things the enemy tries to use to distract you from your purpose? Try being specific to you, and not general.

2. BE GUIDED BY THE WORD

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, for instruction in righteousness

Q5 - In what ways can you practice being guided by God’s word?

John 8:31-32 NLT Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Q6 - According to the last 2 scriptures we just read, what are some of the things the Word does for us?

3. BE EMPOWERED BY THE SPIRIT

Zechariah 4:6 NLT Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Q7 - What are the results of a life that is NOT guided by the Spirit? (Refer to Galatians 5:19-21)

Q8 - What are the results of a life that IS guided but the Spirit? (Refer to Galatians 5: 22-23)

Q9 - Can you recall a specific moment in your life where you’ve relied on the power of the Holy Spirit?

Declaration:

I am made for Purpose! I can pursue and achieve my Purpose! The Holy Spirit in me, Gods promise and down payment, empowers me to do ALL things! Today I choose to lay down my desires and pursue my Purpose! In Jesus mighty name, Amen!

Application:

Pay attention to the new perceptive that you have received after tonight. Don't look at things from your own persecutive, but instead look at everything from God's perspective.
