Icebreaker: If you could only eat one meal everyday for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to help understand the Gospel/Good News message of Christ for what it actually is.
Romans 1.17 NLT This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life.
Discussion: It's important to have a proper understanding of what the Good News is. It's simple: God has made a way for every one of us to be made right with Him. The good news is not bad, it's good! For someone who is expecting a huge storm in their future, it's important to share some Good News with them. The Good News is that we can be saved from the storm. We as believers have this message inside of us, and it's important that we know the message so we can preach this message with those around us.
Q1 - Have you ever witnessed someone bringing the Good News in a bad way? How does that effect how someone receives it?
Q2 - Who in your life needs some Good News?
2 Thessalonians 1: 7-9 NLT And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.
Q3 - Based on this scripture, what will be the consequences if we are not right in God's sight? (it is okay and important to know if we are right or not. And it is okay to let people know that judgment is coming in the same way it is okay for emergency announcements to warn and evacuate people when a hurricane is coming).
How does god make us right in his sight?
1. By Believing
Ephesians 2.8 NLT God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Q4 - All you need to do is believe, and Jesus does the rest. Do you believe in Jesus?
Q5 - The #1 enemy to belief is doubt, unbelief, or procrastination. How can you help someone to believe in the the Good News?
2. Not by doing
Romans 3:20 NLT For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
Q6- We can never do enough to earn being right with God. Do you sometimes find yourself trying to earn God's love? How so?
Q7- Obedience is a response to salvation. You are not saved because you're obedient, but you are obedient because you're saved. How does this impact the way you view what it means to live right for God?
Romans 3:27 NLT Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.
Q8 - Your faith is where you put your trust. How can you show God that you trust Him?
I believe in Jesus and the free gift of salvation. I believe that it is Good News, and that I am saved based on my belief. I cannot earn God's love with my good works, but I can have faith that I am saved. Because of this free gift, I will live for Christ and respond in obedience.
Share some Good News! There is so much bad news on TV right now with the hurricanes and earthquakes happening all around the world. Make someone's day by sharing the Good News about Christ, that God made a way to be right with Himself that doesn't involved our behavior, but our faith.
