Icebreaker:

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to understand the power and principle of what "belief" is, and the 3 benefits of believing.

Main Scripture: Matthew 9.28-29 CEB
When he came into the house, the blind men approached him. Jesus said to them, “Do you believe I can do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. 29 Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “It will happen for you just as you have believed.”

Discussion: If asked, "If today was your last day on earth, where would you go?," what would your answer be? Many people would answer, "I will go to heaven because I am a good person." However, believers would say "I would go to heaven because I put my faith in Jesus." Everyone of us is either a believer or a non-believer. What we believe in will determine our results in life. As Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company once said, "you either believe you can or believe you can't. Either way, you are right"

Believe - one who relies on Christ alone for salvation and right standing in his sight. One who has a strong unwavering conviction that God exists and is the creator, the provider and bestower of eternal life through Christ.

Nonbelievers rely on themselves and there work for salvation, but no matter how good we are, we cannot enter heaven just by our works. We must believe.

Q1 - If you were asked about what you believe, how would you reply?

3 benefits of being a believer

1. Believers never Die

John 11: 25-26 NLT Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

Q2 - For a believer, why is the day we die actually a good day?

Q3 - Since believers never die, do we always have something to look forward to?

2. believers are 100% approved by God

Romans 3:21-22 NLT But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Q4 - How are we made right with God?

Q5 - Do you sometimes get trapped thinking you need to be perfect to be accepted by God? Explain.

3. nothing is impossible for a believer

Mark 9:23 NLT “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

Q6 - A new beginning and freedom are possible for anyone who believes. What area of your life needs a new beginning?

Q7 - What is something brand new that you can achieve/accomplish in your life if you just believe?

Declaration: I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]

Application: There are 2 things believers do. 1) all believers make a public declaration that Jesus is Lord and savior of their lives and 2) all believers get baptized. Find someone to share your faith with, and if you haven't already, sign up to be baptized!
