Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how important it is to ask God for the desires of our hearts.
Main Scripture: You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! (John 14:13-14 NLT)
God is waiting for us to ask Him for what we need. We often limit God's ability to work in our lives because He needs us to ask. When our prayer lives are limited, every other part of our lives are limited. Lets take the limits off, by praying bold prayers in His name- His Word says that whatever we ask, He will do it!!
Q1- In what areas of your life have you placed God in a box?
Q2- How does our "ask" bring Glory to the Father?
Q3- How should our prayer lives change in response to this promise?
FACT #1- The first step to receiving anything from God is asking.
Ask (Ateo)- Desire, expect, request, call for
Q4- What hinders us from asking God for what we need?
Q5- Why do you think God limits himself to our prayers?
FACT #2- God promises to give us the desires/ask of our heart.
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalm 37:4)
"The level of passion that you have for God, is the level of passion you will have in your prayer life"- Pastor Marco
Q6- What impact does our relationship with God have on our heart's desires?
"We build desire through Exposure and Focus: What you focus on, you will build a desire for." - Pastor Marco
Q7- What personal distractions are redirecting our focus, and hindering our passion?
FACT #3- Only persistent "asks" will be granted.
Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. (Luke 11:5-8 NLT)
Q7- Many times we don't see the manifestation of our prayers right away. Why is persistence important? What does this type of perseverance produce in us? (see James 1:4)
FACT #4- Asking and receiving is a spiritual principle.
Read: Mark 10:47-52 (NLT)
Q8- Jesus asked the blind man what he wanted from God. Why is it important to be specific in our prayer lives?
Declaration: I declare that I am passionate in my pursuit of God. I declare that I love to pray, and I have a hunger for more of God's Presence in my life. I believe that whatever I ask in His name, He will do it! I will keep knocking, I will keep seeking, I will stay persistent, and I will see the manifestation of His Glory in my life. In Jesus Name!
Application: Memorize John 14:13-14. Make a specific "ask" list and keep a log of all the prayers that are answered as a result.
