Icebreaker

How are you and your family celebrating Passion Week?

Purpose:

The purpose of this lesson is to remind ourselves of the Victory that was won through Christ  and to prepare ourselves to celebrate the greatest event in the history of the World: the Death and Resurrection of our Savior!

Main Scripture:

As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. 2 “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.” 4 This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said, 5“Tell the people of Jerusalem, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.’” 6 The two disciples did as Jesus commanded. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it. 8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD ! Praise God in highest heaven!” 10 The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked. 11 And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Discussion:

Jesus has just made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Before this time, He only shared the truth of who He was with only a few people; but here, we see that He is revealing His identity with everyone! He is Messiah and King!

1. Jesus is the Prince of Peace!

(Donkeys represented "Peace")

Q1- How is the Peace the Jesus offers different from the world's idea of peace?

Q2- Read Isaiah 9:6. Discuss a time in your life where you experienced one of these characteristics of Jesus.

Q3-  How does our "Peace" reveal Jesus to those around us?

2. Jesus the Promise Keeper!

"When God Promises something, it will come to pass"- Pastor Robert

Q4- Read Zechariah 9:9 again. Discuss why this prophecy is so amazing.

Q5-  What promise are you believing God for? How can this prophecy be an encouragement to you as you wait on the Lord?

Q6-  God uses the foolish things of this World to confound the wise (1 Cor 1:27). How is this scene in Jerusalem a perfect picture of this concept?

3. Jesus the Savior of the World!

Q7- Hosanna means: Please Save or Save Now. It was an expression of praise, thanking God for deliverance. What have you been delivered from?

Q8- Are there any other areas of your life or your family where you need to declare HOSANNA?

Declaration:

I declare that the Lord is my Savior and my Prince of Peace! He will keep all of his promises. I declare that my family is saved, my life is prosperous, and I have to joy of the Lord in all circumstances. Glory to God for all He has done! Hosanna!!
