If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be?
The purpose of this messages is to help us understand ways to make a marriage work and last.
Genesis 2.23-24 NLT "At last!" the man exclaimed. "This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken from 'man.'" This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
A marriage is meant to last forever, but Divorce has become more common now than ever. With nearly 2,400 divorces everyday, how can we ensure that our marriage lasts forever? Today we will discuss 3 arts or skills that we can grow in to make our marriages work.
How to make it work
1. Learn the Art of Flexibility
1 Corinthians 13.5 NLT ...[Love] does not demand its own way.
Flexibility: characterized by a ready capability to adapt to new, different, or changes.
Q1 - Would you consider yourself to be more flexible or more rigid? How can you grow to be more flexible?
Q2 - How does being flexible with someone show that you love them?
2. Learn the Art of keeping the peace
2 Timothy 2.23 NLT Again I say, don't get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.
Q3 - One of the biggest problems in a relationship is the inability to resolve conflict. What happens when you don't solve conflicts quickly?
Q4 - Are there any unresolved conflicts in your life today? What can you do to begin creating peace?
3. Learn the art of your role
Q5 - Scripture makes it very clear what a man's role and a woman's role is in a marriage. Why do you think God made it that clear in scripture?
Q6 - What are the benefits of knowing your role in a relationship? What are the consequences of not knowing your role?
I declare that I will walk in more love, peace, and understanding than ever before, with the help of Jesus. I declare that I am a new creation, and from this moment forward I can begin fighting for a marriage that will last a lifetime. I declare that I will remain teachable with the word of God daily and work to continue to better my relationships.
This week write down 1 way you can become more flexible, 1 way you can begin maintaining peace in your home, and 1 way you can better live out the role God has given you. Once you've done that, find ways to exercise these 3 arts and get better at them.
