Icebreaker

Our youth and kids are at camp this week. What is your prayer for them?

Purpose:

The purpose of this lesson is to continue our discussion about the HARVEST!

Main Scripture:

And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” (Mark 4:26-29 ESV)

Discussion: God's Word is true; and it always produces a harvest in our lives, and in the lives of those around us. It is important that we remember that there is a process through which every seed must go.  We cannot get discouraged during the process! God is always working and our seeds are producing a Harvest.

Law #1-  The seed must be planted.

You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. (John 4:37 NLT)

Q1 - What are seeds? How do we plant them?

Q2 -  Read Ecclesiastes 11:4 again. Discuss why waiting for "perfect conditions" can be detrimental to the people around us.

Law #2 -The seed grows

Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. (Mark 4:27 NLT).

Q3 - In the natural, one does not see a seed growing under dirt but we believe that something is happening. Discuss how this is the same in the Spirit.

Q4 - It takes time for seeds to grow. How do we remain encouraged when it seems that the seed is taking a lot of time to sprout?

Law # 3- A blade pushes through

The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. (Mark 4:28)

Q5 -  Often our progress is very small at first. Why is it important to be thankful during every step of the Harvest?

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin… (Zech 4:10 NLT).

Q6 - Read Zechariah 4:10. What are some small beginnings in your life that you need to rejoice about?

Law #4- Heads of Wheat appear

The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear (Mark 4:28 NLT)

Q7 - When we start to see significant progress, it can be tempting to pull up the harvest before its time. Discuss some practical ways that we ruin our harvest and/or get ahead of God.

Law #5- Harvest TIME

And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. (Mathew 24:30- 31 NLT).

Q8 - The final Harvest will occur when Jesus comes back for his church. How do we stay ready for that amazing day?!

Declaration:

I declare that I am a seed sower. I sow the seed of God's Word everywhere I go. I walk by faith and not by sight. I believe that the seeds I have sown are producing a harvest in my life and in the lives of my family. I will not get distracted by night seasons or dirt. I will not wait for perfect weather. I will continue to sow seeds and trust that God will bring the Harvest. In Jesus NAME!!

Application:

Sow some intentional seeds of God's Word into a few family members and co-workers this week.
