The purpose of this lesson is to help us understand the two different seeds that get planted in our life, how to identify them, and what we need to do to make sure that we see good seeds produce a harvest.
Matthew 13:24-30 NKJV
“Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
Matthew 13:37-43 NKJV
37 Jesus replied, “The Son of Man[d] is the farmer who plants the good seed. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. 39 The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world,[e] and the harvesters are the angels. 40 “Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!
There are certain facts we must understand about the seeds that are sown into our lives. There are two facets depicted in this parable of the Wheat and Tares. The devil and Jesus! This shows us that both the devil and Jesus sow seeds into our lives. Satan sows seeds of tares and Jesus sows good seeds.
Q1- How would you identify weather the seed is from Jesus or the devil?
Q2 - Looking back on your life, was there a time that you could identify the seed before you saw the harvest?
two facets depicted in the sowing
1. the devil is a sower of tares
What is a tare? The weeds!
What do the weeds represent? The counterfeit!
The devil will place weeds where the Lord had placed seeds for the harvest. He will put things in your way that distract you from where God has called you to be. Every good seed that Jesus plants, the devil follows behind planting the substitute.
Matthew 13:28 NKJV
28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.
Q3 - Where in your life have you seen weeds growing where wheat was supposed to be?
Q4 - What can you do to make sure that the enemy is stopped BEFORE he comes and attempts to plant the seeds of tares?
2. Jesus is the facilitator of the harvest
Matthew 24: 37-38
37 Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one.
The devil sets out seeds to destroy us but they cannot be fulfilled. ONLY God's seed see's the harvest. Therefore, if you're living in a seed of destruction, it will be destroyed. IT IS UP TO YOU WHAT FILLS YOUR TEMPLE. You chose your seed.
Q5 - What are some things we should be filling our temple with?
Matthew 13:12 NLT He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”
Q6 - What are some things that we need to separate from to "clean up the weeds" in our life?
Declaration: I declare that I will not allow the seed of tares into my life. I will stand firm in my faith and not give into the seeds of tares. I will separate myself from seeds of destruction and clean out the weeds in my life. I am the temple of God. I am pure. I am blameless. I am separated. I receive the good seeds from Jesus and I will walk in the harvest.
Write down on paper what or who you need to separate yourself from. Work on cleaning out those things this week and encourage someone to do the same.
