Icebreaker: What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to recognize the difference between a godly and an ungodly mindset.

Main Scripture:

The LORD now said to Moses, 2 “Send out men to explore the land of Canaan, the land I am giving to the Israelites. Send one leader from each of the twelve ancestral tribes.” 3 So Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He sent out twelve men, all tribal leaders of Israel, from their camp in the wilderness of Paran. (Numbers 13:1-3 NLT)

Discussion: When God gives a vision or a Word, we can respond to it in one of two ways. We will either have a response of faith, or a response of fear. The way we respond to the Word determines whether or not it will manifest in our lives.

1. Ungodly Mindset

27 This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. 28 But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak!

31 But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” 32 So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge.

33 We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” (Numbers 13: 27-28; 31-33 NLT)

Q1- Why is it so difficult for us to believe for something that God has shown us?

Q2- The Israelites saw God part the Red Sea, why do you think they had a hard time believing this promise from God?

Q3- The majority of the men did not think they could take the land. Why is it important to have the right people around you, when you are believing God for something?

Q4- The Israelites believed that they were just like grasshoppers next to the enemy. Talk about why knowing who you are in Christ, helps you to defeat every enemy and win every battle.

2. Godly Mindset

But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!” (Numbers 13:30 NLT)

Q5- Discuss a time in your life when you had to stand for righteousness by yourself.

Q6- Who is your greatest, godly encourager?

Q7-  What does Caleb's response say about his knowledge of God?

Q8- Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who entered the promise land 40 years later. Discuss why it is important to seize the opportunity and be obedient to the voice of God when he speaks.

Declaration: I declare that I am an overcomer. I can accomplish every task that God sets in front of me. I believe that God has great things in my future; land for me to conquer; and battles for me to win. I choose to be obedient! I choose to believe His Word, and I will receive everything God has for me. Amen.

Application: What is something that God has asked for you to do that you have not done yet? Be obedient this week and GET IT DONE!!
