Icebreaker: Who are you routing for during March Madness?

Purpose:  The purpose of this lesson is to continue our study of how God takes us from one season to the next.

Main Scripture:
Then he said to his servant, "Go and look out toward the sea." The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, "I didn't see anything." Seven times Elijah told him to go and look. (1Kings 18:43)

Discussion:

Elijah is convinced that rain is coming. Every time his servant came back with a contrary report, Elijah asked him to go and look again.  Elijah had an expectation of rain. God will meet us at the level of our expectation. Low expectations will yield low results. High expectations will yield high results. Even in the midst of difficulty, we must hold on to the promises of God over our lives and expect to see them fulfilled. Expectation and Faith are synonymous! God can do immeasurably more that we can even ask o think (Eph. 3:20), but it is our faith in His goodness that activates this promise in our lives.

Expectation: The act of looking forward to, anticipating

Q1- What are you expecting from God?

Q2- God can do the impossible. Is your level of expectation a true reflection of the greatness of our God?

Life Principle #1- We generally get what we expect

Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” (Matthew 9:29 NLT)

Q3- If you knew for CERTAIN that God would answer your prayer, what would you ask for?

Q4- Discuss ways that the enemy "dumbs down" our expectation.

Life Principle #2- Our level of expectation determines the level of results

But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it! But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!”  (Numbers 13:30-31 NLT)

Q5- Be honest. Which group (Josh/Caleb or Israelites) do you think you would have been apart of?

Q6-  Our expectation should be in God, but many times we place our expectation in other places. What other areas have we personally placed our expectation (spouse, job, ourselves, etc.)?

Life Principle #3- Our expectation level is determined by our level of exposure

Q7- We must expose ourselves to the Word of God (Romans 10:17). How does the Word of God raise our expectation?

Q8- We must expose ourselves to men and women of faith (Acts 3:2-7). Who is your biblical role model of faith? Who is your modern role model of faith?

Declaration: I choose to believe that God can do anything! I expect a supernatural move of God in my life because I serve a supernatural God! I want everything that God has for me. Lord, Increase my faith! I want to see Your Power in my life!

Application:  What are you expecting from God? Write down a list of 50 ways that he can answer that prayer. After you are done, praise Him, knowing he can do immeasurably more than that!
