What is your hidden talent?
The purpose of today's lesson is to understand why we need the Holy Spirit in our lives, and the necessity of a relationship with Him.
John 3:6 NLT Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
1. We need the Holy Spirit to be saved.
Q1 - Living a church life with out the Holy Spirit offers no power, no anointing, and no change. How would you describe your walk? Do you sometimes get caught in the "church life" without listening to the Holy Spirit?
Q2 - Have you been relying on something other than the Holy Spirit to live right with God? Things like "being a good person" or even a set of "rules or standards" to live by?
Titus 3:5 NLT He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
Q3 - You can't be born again until you admit that you have sin and need to repent. But what is sin? And who defines what sin is?
The world has been trying to define what is and is not sin. But the Bible is what truly defines what is and isn't sin. Sin is missing the mark.
2. We need the Holy Spirit to be convicted.
Conviction: an awareness of our spiritual lack and sin with a deep desire to turn away from it and turn to God for salvation.
Q4 - How can conviction of the Holy Spirit help guide your life? And what are some ways you respond to convictions?
Q5 - In what areas has the Holy Spirit brought an "awareness" to your life?
3. We need the Holy Spirit to repent.
2 Corinthians 7:10 NLT For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
Q6 - Have you ever experienced sorrow recently in your life? Would you say it is a "Godly sorrow" or a "worldly sorrow?"
Q7 - How can you express a deeper need for the Holy Spirit in your life?
Declaration: "I declare that I need the Holy Spirit in my life. I declare that with the Holy Spirit, I am saved, I walk with conviction, and have a heart of repentance. I will continue to express my need for the Holy Spirit in my life."
Use this week to call upon the Holy Spirit in your life. Pray to God with a heart of need for him. Express your need for the Holy Spirit in your daily walk. Remember that without the Holy Spirit, we are not truly living a life of faith.
