Ice Breaker

Name your favorite season of the year, and why.

The purpose of this lesson learn the reasons and the blessings of giving your first fruits to God.

Main Scripture

Nehemiah 12:44 And at the same time some were appointed over the rooms of the storehouse for the offerings, the firstfruits, and the tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and Levites who ministered.

First Fruits: 1st in place and time, most important, highest in rank, 1st whole.

If this is going to be the year of no limits, then the way we start the year is going to have a lot to do with the way we end the year. And what we do with our first fruits is going to have a lot to do with the results we get in life. So, why should we bring our first fruit to the Lord? Here are 3 reasons:

1. It is an act of worship to the Lord.

Q1 - Worship means doing something for God that represents a sacrifice and obedience. When was the last time you felt God asking you to sacrifice something for him?

2. The First Fruit belongs to the Lord (it is Holy)
Romans 11:16 NKJV For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

The first born is that which opens the womb. So when the source is blessed, so is everything that comes out of it. When we give our first fruits to God, God blesses everything else that comes from the source.

Q2 - When we evaluate our lives honestly, we may find areas that are not holy, or that do not belong to God. Could this have something to do with our first fruits, or with what is taking first place in our lives? Use courage in this moment and share with the group if that's you.

3. God has always instructed us to bring our first fruits to Him.
Exodus 23: 19 NLT As you harvest your crops, bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the LORD your God.

1. It will cause a blessing on our home.
Ezekiel 44:30 NKJV
The best of all firstfruits of any kind, and every sacrifice of any kind from all your sacrifices, shall be the priest’s; also you shall give to the priest the first of your ground meal, to cause a blessing to rest on your house.

Q3 - A blessing can be defined as prosperity, peace, or favor pronounced by God. Discuss what "blessing" you need in your home right now (with your family, those in your household, your kids)

2. It will cause us to enjoy life
Rejoice: be glad, take delight, experience a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment.

Q4 - What can you rejoice about in your life right now?

Q5 - There are people who are very wealthy in this world, but have no joy. Is there something you should be enjoying, but are struggling to find joy in?

3. It will cause a release of God's abundance in our lives. (pentecost)
The disciples could not be filled with the Holy Spirit until they gave God their first fruit of their time with God. It is the same with us. Until we can give God our first and our best, we cannot be filled to the point of overflow.

Proverbs 3:9-10  NKJV Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

Q6 - Giving our first fruits causes overflow and breakthrough from resistance. Is there any resistance that seems to be holding you back?

Q7 - Declare some things in your life that you are going to begin conquering this year!

I declare that God is first in my life. I will worship God with my life, and with my giving. The first and the best all belong to God. I declare that my home and family are blessed, that I will enjoy God's blessings in my life, and that I wall in abundance. This will be a year of no limits because of the plan of God in my life!

Make a commitment to give God your first and your best. This includes the first of your day, the first of your increase, and the first in your heart. Practice praying and seeking God first thing in the morning. And if you haven't participated yet, practice giving God a first fruit (something that means something to you, something that is a stretch). Let this first fruit be a seed in the ground for an amazing year of no limits!
