Icebreaker: Would you rather visit the doctor or the dentist?
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is for us to make our way out of seasons that we're stuck in and make our way into a new season.
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food (Hebrews 5:12 NLT)
A season is not meant to last forever. But seasons don't change overnight. We can only enter into a new season when we commit to the process. We cannot get "zapped" into a new season, we must be trained into a new season. During these upcoming weeks, we will be focusing on how to enter into a new season.
Q1 - Are there any "seasons" in your life that you're tired and ready to let go of?
Q2 - What seasons are you anticipating/expecting to move into in your life?
There are ways we can shift (cause to change) a season in our life. The first way is to DECLARE A CHANGE OF SEASON.
Q3 - Do a self reflection. What are some words that you've been speaking that could be effecting the season that you're in? (Ex. about our jobs/bosses, about our leaders, about our situations, about our finances, about our families, etc.)
1 Kings 18:1 NLT Later on, in the third year of the drought, the Lord said to Elijah, “Go and present yourself to King Ahab. Tell him that I will soon send rain!”
Q4 - When God asked Elijah to pray for the rain, it was during a 3 year drought, a time when it was toughest to pray for rain. What are we praying for that seems so impossible right now in our lives?
Q5 - You may not always "feel" like praying for the impossible. How much have your feelings played a factor in what you pray for?
Q6 - One of the hardest things we can do in life is speak contrary to our emotions. Let's practice speaking contrary to what we may be feeling right now (Ex. Speak prosperity when we feel lack, speak joy when we feel depressed, speak forgiveness when we feel bitter, etc.)
Q7 - One truth about seasons is that a new season begins in our mouth. What are some key words we should speak to guide us into a new season?
Declaration: I declare that the end to my old seasons and the beginning of new ones. I declare that I will not remain stuck in the past, but move on into my future. I declare that I am entering into a new season in my life. I declare that I will commit to the growth process and endure until the end. Thank you Jesus for the new season of my life!
Application: Declare the end of your old season and a beginning of a new one by writing on an index card. Write down the season that you're declaring an end to, and a season that you're declaring a beginning to and bring it to share with the group next week.
