WORD

ICE BREAKER

Who is one person that you most admire and why?

Title: “GODS VISION, OUR VISION” - Come back home

When it comes to the inner city it faces poverty, higher crimes, and single moms struggling. The major problem is the breakdown of the American family, fatherless homes. There are two types of father less homes: 1. The father is physically gone. 2. Disengaged fathers, fathers that are physically present, but not engaged. As a church we should make an impact on the inner cities!

Men are called to be spiritual leaders. It takes courage to admit our shortcomings and ask our children for forgiveness.

Malachi 4:6 Malachi 4:6  (AMP) 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers [a reconciliation produced by repentance], so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse [of complete destruction].”

Q1 Why would it be important for us to admit and acknowledge that we have made mistakes, and ask for forgiveness?

It all starts with repentance and God begins changing our hearts. God is the only one who can change our hearts, He turns our hearts and makes them whole.

Ezekiel 36:26 (NIV) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Q2 God has given you a new heart and describe how He has changed your heart?

Q3 Is there anything you want to God to change in your heart?

Matthew 5:23-24 (ESV)23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

God is saying we must have the courage to admit our shortcomings and ask our children for forgiveness.

Ephesians 4:31 CEV. 31 Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude.

Ephesians 6:2 NLT2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise:”

We must trust that God will change the hearts of our children and the reconciliation will come. Also, as children, we must be forgiving and honor our fathers and mothers. Value your mother, value your father, value your spiritual mom/dad. We cannot prosper if we have bitterness and hate in our hearts.

Q4. How can you honor your mother, father, or spiritual mentor?

A major responsibility to be a present father is to be there, as a parent you must intentionally be physically present.

4 Things That Will Stop Us from Being There:

  1. Sexual Immorality

Malachi 2:15 NLT 15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his.[a] And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.

Adulterous affairs open the door for a breakdown of the family. Marriage is protecting the human morality of the family by keeping the father with his wife and children.

Q5 In what ways can you be a godly example to your children or someone you mentor and looks to you as their spiritual leader?

2. Substance Abuse

Ephesians 5:18 AMP 18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.

When someone is under the influence they participate in “stupid” things or behaviors. If you are being filled with getting high or drunk, you cannot be present with your family or let alone be under God, filled with his spirit and follow His lead.

Q6. How can we safeguard that we being filled with the things of God?

3. Entertainment and Friends

Ecclesiastes 7:4 NLT 4 A wise person thinks a lot about death,
while a fool thinks only about having a good time.

Proverbs 18:24 24 There are “friends” who destroy each other,
but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

It is unacceptable to spend more time with your friends than with your family. We must be intentional when it comes to spending time with your spouse and children. As your children’s role model, it is your responsibility to affirm and love your children, if you don’t, you can risk your son/daughter seeking validation from someone or somewhere.

Q7. What are some activities you can begin doing to make sure you spend time with your family?

4. Divorce

Malachi 2:16 NLT 16 “For I hate divorce!”[a] says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,[b]” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”

Marriage is a gift from God, and it is what keeps a man with his family. God hates divorce, because of the hurt and pain it causes to the children. When the father is gone the children face rejection…. children will search for validation.

Q8. Why must we guard our hearts? How does this protect you from causing pain to yourself, and to the people around you?

When we admit that we are sinners and take responsibility, restoration can begin. Begin now, be spiritual leaders and allow the Lord to change your heart!

GIVING

We are preparing to complete our 15th year of ministry, and enter year 16! We have accomplished so much together! Just recently we sent dozens and dozens of inner-city children to a trip to visit UCLA. Children and teens now have a dream to do more than live in the streets, or be bound by drugs. They see themselves as future doctors, dentists, lawyers, teachers, and more! Thank you for making it possible to change the course of our children’s lives!! We are so appreciative that you contribute towards such a great cause! If you would like to make a contribution towards this cause, and more great causes like this, you can donate today.
