Icebreaker: What are some fun summer activities you have on your bucket list?
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to give us practical applications on becoming a bridge between others and Jesus.
Matthew 8:5-14 NLT
5When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” 7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! 11 And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. 12 But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour. 14 When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. 15 But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.
Discussion: We have been given a command (Mark 16:15) to spread the Gospel to all people. Through the hope that we have found in Jesus we are now able to be a bridge between others and Jesus! Our families and friends have opportunity for hope when we take action. When God wants to change a life he will send a bridge!
Q1 - What are some opportunities in your daily life that you could begin to bridge people to Jesus?
Q2 - Why does God need us to help bridge people to him?
3 ways we can bridge people to Jesus
1. Pray for them
- God will use our prayers to bridge them to him.
-Prayer is a bridge for God to have access to their needs.
-He needs a spiritual bridge to gain access to them.
1 John 5:14 NLT “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.”
Q3: Have you seen the power of prayer work effectively in your own life?
Q4: When is the time to pray for someone else?
Q5: Why is praying for someone else so powerful?
2. Invite them
As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one. (Luke 4:40)
-WE bring people to Jesus.
Q6: What would happen to the church if we stopped inviting?
Q7: Have you or someone you know accepted Jesus because someone invited you?
-No is not a option. -stay consistent and never give up on someone!
So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. (Luke 14:23)
Q8: What is our command here and how do we fulfill it?
3. Sacrifice for them
Eph 5:2 NLT Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Q9 - As Christians, what example of sacrifice do we follow?
Q10 - What does sacrifice show to others?
Q11 - What kind of sacrifices can you make?
Declaration: I declare that I will be alert at all times to every opportunity to bridge people to Jesus! I accept the call on my life to save souls. I will pray for my friends and family, I will invite them to the house of God and will not stop until they come, and I will sacrifice for them. My life is operated by love and I follow in the example of Christ. I AM A BRIDGE FOR JESUS!
Application: Spend time this week making a game plan. Who can you start bridging to Jesus? How will you do it?
