What is one of the most happy memories you can think of?

Main Scripture:

1 Thessalonians 5:16 (ICB) “Always be happy.”

We are creatures of habit. That means we have consistent routines and habits that we walk in on a daily basis. Some habits are good and some not so good. From a habit of washing your hands before you eat, or biting your nails, we all have habits. But one habit that we sometimes don’t realize we can begin walking in is the habit of happiness. We all want to walk in happiness, but there is a method to making happiness a habit that we walk in consistently.

Q1 - What makes you most happy?

Q2 - What causes you to lose happiness?

Q3 - Do you think that happiness begins with you or with others?

how to develop the habit of happiness

1. take responsibility for your own happiness

1 Thessalonians 5:16 (ICB) “Always be happy.”

Q4 - What will happen to you if you depended on your spouse (or on others) for your happiness?

Q5 - Do you think that it’s a good thing or a bad thing that we cannot make each other fully happy the way God can? Explain.

2. Decide to be happy and declare it

Psalms 118.24 GNT This is the day of the Lord's victory; let us be happy, let us celebrate!

Q6 - Do you believe that happiness is a choice or a feeling? Explain.

3. choose to respond positively to difficult situations and people

James 1:2 ICB My brothers, you will have many kinds of troubles. But when these things happen, you should be very happy.

Q7 -  Are you going through a tough time and through a storm? Practice sharing something that you can be happy about even in the middle of this tough time.

4. stop blaming and accusing your spouse (or others)

Matthew 7:1-2 NLT “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.

Blame: to hold responsible, find fault with.

Q8 - Blaming others keeps us from improving ourselves. How does focusing on others’ problems keep us from growing ourselves?

I declare today today that I will walk in happiness! I take responsibility of my own happiness, I decide to be happy and declare it, I choose to respond positively to difficult situations and people, and I will stop blaming and accusing others! In Jesus Name!

This week, catch yourself when you put blame on others. Anytime you do this, say 3 positive things about that person to undo the blame.
