Overcoming: to get the better of in a struggle or conflict; to conquer, to defeat an enemy, a weakness, a temptation, to prevail over, have victory.
Challenges: a difficulties, trials, a call to battle or to fight.
2 Corinthians 1:3 (NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5 For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.
God desires that we overcome in life. God did not create us so that we can live defeated, but He has given us a spiritual authority to overcome all of the various trials that come our way. We all face battles, but not all of us are victorious. That is why it is important that we learn God’s way of overcoming!
Q1 - Let’s testify about some amazing victories in your life. How has God brought victory to your life lately?
Q2 - What areas of your life are you still fighting to overcome?
There are certain facts about God that we can rely on when it comes to overcoming:
#1 - God wants to give us victory over our enemies.
Q3 - What are some of the biggest enemies we face in life as Christians?
Q4 - What can you do to overcome these enemies?
#2 - God has already overcome every one of our life challenges.
Q5 - How encouraging is it to know that all of our challenges in life have ALREADY BEEN OVERCOME by God?
Here are 3 C’s to overcoming life’s challenges
#1 - Christ
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV) 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our victory is in Christ! Victory over sin, fear, death, failures, the devil, our past, tribulations, trials, pain, loss, sickness, etc)
Q6 - Do you think we are able to take credit for being overcomers? Why or why not?
#2 - Compliance
Compliance: the act of conforming, willingness to yield, to follow orders, cooperate, obedience
Compliance to Jesus’ teachings is the foundation to overcoming life’s challenges.
Matthew 7:24-27 (NLT) 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Q7 - According to this scripture, what is the main difference between the house that came down with a mighty crash and the house that stayed standing?
Q8 - It’s not what the house is made of, it’s what it’s built on. Why is the foundation more important than what the house looks like?
Q9 - Do you think we sometimes get caught up in what we look like rather than where we stand? Explain.
#3 - Consistency
Consistency: constantly adhering to the same principles, course, form, holding firmly together; fixed; firm.
Luke 11:9-10 (NLT) 9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
Q10 - Overcomers always get up after the fall! Name a time the enemy tried to take you out, but you got back up and overcame!
In the month of May, we will continue our Care Project to work together as a group to get rid of 5 bricks towards the down payment of the building. 1 brick represents $500 that goes towards the down payment of our building and finishing other major initiatives in the church and around the world.

Father, thank you for overcoming the world and teaching me to be an overcomer! I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength! I am an overcomer! I won’t back down, I won’t give up, I am victorious, the battle’s won!
