The purpose of this lesson is to challenge us to win at life by succeeding with people. We can learn to grow in our relationships with people, but it is going to take #PeopleSkills.
In order to succeed at anything in life, we must learn to be successful in our relationships. Without healthy relationships, we cannot show God's love to the world. There are many things that we must work on in order to be successful at relationships, especially criticism and judgement of others. These things will hinder our People Skills.
PEOPLE SKILLS #1 - STOP BEING CRITICAL AND JUDGMENTAL
Proverbs 11:30 AMPC The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives [for God, as a fisher of men—he gathers and receives them for eternity].
Wise: skillful, learned skill, artful. There is an art to having healthy relationships
Q1 - Based on this scripture, is it safe to say that God wants us to be good at People Skills?
Q2 - What does a fisherman use to catch fish? Why is this important for us to understand and apply to our lives?
Critical: someone that is inclined to find fault, to judge often and readily.
Q3 - If you could score yourself (1 point for each time you criticize someone/something and 1 point for each time to you're uplifting/thankful) what side do you think would have more points? (including your thoughts)
Matthew 7:1 NLT Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
Q4 - Do you feel like people judge you often? If this is the case, could it be that you've been judgmental to others?
How do we get set free?
1. Ask Jesus to set us free and save us from the critical mindset
Q5 - Is there anyone that you can think of that you've been a little more critical of? Ask Jesus to set you free.
2. Stop and Challenge all Critical Thoughts
Q6 - We have the ability to choose our thoughts. Next time you feel critical of someone, what is something you can practice to challenge that?
3. Stop talking negative, and start talking positive about others.
Q7 - You can always find something positive to say, even with your worst enemy. What is something positive you can say to just about anybody?
Q8 - How does being less critical build your People Skills?
I declare that I will be less critical and more positive in my relationships. This includes everyone I come into contact with. Jesus, help me to be loving, kind, and caring for others.
This week, take score of yourself: 1 point for negativity and 1 point for positivity.
Your goal: make sure positivity wins by next week, even if that means you have to intentionally say some positive things to people so bump up your score.
