Ice Breaker

Name a gift you've received that you will never forget.

The purpose of this lesson is to learn about the mighty power behind living a life of of giving, and the spiritual significance of a tithe.

Main Scripture

Leviticus 27:28 NLT However, anything specially set apart for the LORD--whether a person, an animal, or family property--must never be sold or bought back. Anything devoted in this way has been set apart as holy, and it belongs to the LORD.

Deuteronomy 28:8 NLT The LORD will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.

The Tithe is the first ten percent of our income that belongs to God. The tithe is also the covenant (the agreement that brings 2 parties together) between you and God. When we give our tithe to God, we are standing in agreement with God, His word, and His blessing in our lives. He promises that there will be a blessing on "everything we do" when we are tithers.

Q1- Think of some of the promises someone has made to you in the past. How does it make you feel when you've been promised something that doesn't come through?

Q2-  God is faithful in His promises, and He never lies. So then, when God promises we will be blessed, why does it sometimes seem like we're not walking in God's blessings?

Q3- A Covenant is an agreement that happens between 2 parties (it's not one-sided). What can we do differently to ensure we remain committed to this covenant and reap God's blessings in our lives?

Prior Preparation prevents poor performance.

Q4- Discuss some things that you believe God is preparing you for right now.

Q5- Nobody desires to be a "poor performer." What are some healthy practices to make sure you're prepared for what's to come?

When we put the seed in the ground, pray for rain, not the harvest. The only way your seed (tithe/giving) can produce a harvest (blessings) is if your seed is in the ground when the rain comes. Rain can't produce a harvest from a seedless ground.

Q6 -  Trees don't grow overnight. How important is it to remain patient during the rain?

If we keep our focus on the blessings and not on God, we will find ourselves shorthanded. If we keep our focus on God, the blessings will come to us and overtake us.

Q7 - Have you had your eyes on the blessing, or on God?

Q8 - How can putting your full attention on God change the way you walk in blessing?

I declare that I am blessed because of God's promises for me! I declare that I am a tither and a giver, and I will continually walk with the windows of heaven open over my life. Thank you Father for being my provider!

Apply what we've discussed today into your everyday life. God says "test me in this," which means, if we've never practiced tithing or giving, that we can put God to the test to see if He will uphold His end of this covenant. God has never let anyone down, so trust that as you put God to the test, that He will do just as He has promised us.
