TODAY’S PASSAGE:

John 14:1-7 (NLT) – 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”6Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

What did you learn from what we just read?

TRUTH #1

TRUST IN JESUS CALMS THE TROUBLED HEART.

John 14:1 (NLT) -“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”

  • Jesus spoke directly to the fear and anxiety that all of us face.
  • He knew that His disciples were about to face a very troubling circumstance – watching Him die on a cross! Still, He called them to trust, not to panic.
  • Our comfort doesn’t come from a change in circumstances, but by trusting in our unchanging God.
  • The problem may not change, but your perspective can.

Isaiah 26:3 (NLT) – “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

    • You can have a trusting heart or a troubled heart. The choice is yours.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

When life gets overwhelming, what helps you shift from panic to trust? Can you share a moment when trusting Jesus brought you peace?

TRUTH #2

JESUS HAS PREPARED A PLACE FOR US.

John 14:2–3 (NLT) – “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home… I am going to prepare a place for you… I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

  • Heaven is not an imaginary or uncertain place. Jesus describes it as a real place, a home with room for us.
  • No matter what trouble comes into our lives here on earth, we need to remember that this is not how the story ends.
  • This earth is not our home. Heaven is where we truly belong.

Philippians 3:20 (NLT) – “But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.”

    • Our hope is not just in the destination, but in being with Him forever.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

What comes to mind when you think about heaven? How does knowing Jesus is preparing a place for you change the way you live now?

TRUTH #3

JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER.

John 14:6 (NLT) – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

  • Jesus doesn’t just show the way – He IS the way!
  • Salvation is found in a person not in a religion.

Acts 4:12 (NLT) – “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

  • Some people might say that we are closed-minded or intolerant to believe that there is only one way to heaven, but that’s exactly what the Bible teaches.
  • God doesn’t want anyone to die without knowing how to get to heaven and be with Him for eternity. That’s why He made this so clear – there is no other way!
  • The Good News is that His offer of salvation is open to ALL who believe.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

What do you think Jesus meant when He said He is "the Way"? How would you lovingly explain this to someone practicing a different religion?

CLOSING QUESTION

What is one thing you have learned from today’s lesson?

GIVING

Generously meeting the needs of the poor will result in a blessing for the giver.
