TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Genesis 1:1-8 (NLT)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.6 Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.” 7 And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. 8 God called the space “sky.”And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.

Opening QUESTION

What stands out to you in this passage about God’s character or His creation?

TRUTH #1

GOD IS THE CREATOR.

Genesis 1:1 (NLT) - "In the beginning God created..."

  • Everything starts with God! If you want a new beginning, it starts with Him!

  • God created everything from nothing! His power and authority are unmatched.

  • Creation is not random; it reflects a purposeful and intelligent Designer.

Romans 1:20 (NLT) - For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

  • The created world leaves us without excuse. We know there is a Creator.

Genesis 1:2 (NLT) - “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”

  • Without God's Word, everything remains formless, empty, and dark—both in the world and in our lives.

  • The presence of the Holy Spirit "hovering" shows that even in dark and chaotic places, God is near and ready to move.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

The Bible tells us that creation itself proves God’s existence — how might this change the way you talk about God with others?

TRUTH #2

GOD'S WORD CHANGES THINGS.

Genesis 1:3-4 (NLT) - “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.”

  • One word from God can change everything!

Psalm 33:9 (NLT) - “For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.”

  • God created everything we see with a word… Imagine what one word from Him could do in your life today!

  • All of us were formless, empty and filled with darkness before the truth of God’s Word brought light, breakthrough, clarity and purpose.

Ephesians 5:8 (NLT) - For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

  • Jesus is the Light that brings salvation and hope even in the darkest situation.

John 8:12 (NLT) - Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

Can you share a time when one verse or truth from God’s Word completely shifted your perspective or brought breakthrough?

TRUTH #3

GOD’S WORD ALWAYS ACCOMPLISHES WHAT HE SPEAKS!

Genesis 1:6–7 (NLT) - 6 Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.” 7 And that is what happened…

  • God said, "Let there be…" and that is what happened!
  • What God says always happens. If He said it, you can rely on it!

Isaiah 55:11 (NLT) - It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

  • There’s never been a promise that He’s failed to fulfill! His promises always come to pass.
  • Choosing to trust in His Word is the wisest thing you’ll ever do.
  • If there’s one fail-proof place to put your trust, it’s in what He says!
  • Believe in God's vision for your life and surrender to His plan!

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What is a promise from God’s Word that you’re holding onto right now?

CLOSING QUESTION

What did you learn today that you can apply to your life this week?

GIVING

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20:35 (NLT)
And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: "It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
