GROWTH QUESTION #3

What was your most important accomplishment this week?

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Genesis 9:1-11(NLT)
1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth. 2 All the animals of the earth, all the birds of the sky, all the small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the fish in the sea will look on you with fear and terror. I have placed them in your power. 3 I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables. 4 But you must never eat any meat that still has the lifeblood in it. 5 “And I will require the blood of anyone who takes another person’s life. If a wild animal kills a person, it must die. And anyone who murders a fellow human must die. 6 If anyone takes a human life, that person’s life will also be taken by human hands. For God made human beings in his own image. 7 Now be fruitful and multiply, and repopulate the earth.” Then God told Noah and his sons, 9 “I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants, 10 and with all the animals that were on the boat with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals—every living creature on earth. 11 Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.”

Opening QUESTION

If you were Noah hearing these words after the flood, how do you think you would have felt?

TRUTH #1

GOD COMMANDS US TO BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY

Genesis 9:1 (NLT) – “Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.”

  • God reaffirms His original command from Genesis 1:28, showing His desire for life, growth, and stewardship.
  • Fruitfulness is not only physical (children) but also spiritual—making disciples!

Matthew 28:19–20 (NLT) 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

  • God’s plan has always been expansion, not stagnation.

John 15:8 (NLT) – “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.”

  • God still calls us to fruitfulness—in our families, our churches, and our personal witness

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What does “being fruitful” look like in our lives today—both physically (family, community) and spiritually (discipleship, influence)?

TRUTH #2

THE BLOOD IS SACRED—ESPECIALLY THE BLOOD OF JESUS

Genesis 9:4 (NLT) – “But you must never eat any meat that still has the lifeblood in it.”

  • Blood represents life itself.

Leviticus 17:11(NLT) - “For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.”

  • God was teaching His people to respect life as sacred.
  • The Old Testament sacrificial system depended on the blood of animals as atonement.
  • God was foreshadowing the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus’ blood that would be necessary to cleanse us of all our sins.
  • Jesus shed His own blood once and for all for the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 9:22 (NLT) – “... Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.”

  • We must never forget the power of the blood of Jesus, which gives us forgiveness and new life.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What does it mean to you personally that Jesus gave His blood for you?

TRUTH #3

GOD’S COVENANT PROMISES ARE CERTAIN

Genesis 9:11 (NLT) – “Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.”

  • God makes a covenant not only with Noah but with all humanity and creation.
  • DEFINITION - covenant ( berith ): a binding agreement or solemn arrangement that defines a relationship; a divine alliance of friendship with signs or pledges.
  • A covenant (berith) is not just a contract (which can be broken by either side). It’s a binding relational commitment that God initiates and sustains.
  • Unlike human promises, God’s covenants are unbreakable—He cannot lie

Numbers 23:19 (NLT) - God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it
through?

  • The covenant with Noah points forward to the New Covenant in Jesus, which guarantees eternal life for all who believe.

Hebrews 13:20 (NLT) – “Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood.”

  • We can live with confidence in God’s covenant promises, knowing He is faithful to His Word.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What is one promise of God that you are holding onto in this season of your life?

CLOSING QUESTION

What did you learn today that you can apply to your life this week?

GIVING

It pleases God when we give sacrificially to those in need.

Hebrews 13:16 (NLT)
And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
