TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Hebrews 6:10-12 (NLT) -

10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. 11 Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. 12 Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

opening question

What helps you keep doing the right thing when it gets hard?

truth #1

GOD KEEPS RECORD OF FAITHFUL WORK

Hebrews 6:10a (NLT) - For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him...

  • God sees the work that people miss. He notices the serving, sacrifice, prayer, consistency, giving, and obedience that may never be publicly recognized.
  • Since God is just, it would go against His character to forget or ignore the faithful work done for Him.
  • People may overlook your effort, but God does not lose record of your obedience.
  • Faithful work for Him is never wasted.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT) - So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

  • The truth that God sees all that you do can strengthen us when we feel unseen.
  • The reality that God will use everything that we do for Him, no matter how small it may seem, can give us hope when we feel like we’re not making a real difference.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What is one good thing you know God wants you to keep doing, even if no one else notices?

truth #2

PEOPLE ARE THE PROOF OF OUR LOVE FOR GOD

Hebrews 6:10b (NLT) - … and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.

  • We show our love for God by caring for other believers.
  • A real love for God will be visible in the way we treat people.
  • Love for God is not only expressed through songs, prayers, and words. It is proven through consistent action.
  • When we encourage, serve, pray for, give to, forgive, and strengthen others, we are showing love to God.
  • God always connects our love for Him with our love for His people.

1 John 4:20-21 (NLT) - If someone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

  • Hebrews 6:10 also says, “as you still do.” This reminds us that love must remain active.
  • God does not only want us to have a history of caring for people; He wants us to have a present lifestyle of love.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION

What is one way you can show your love for others better this week?

truth #3

LOVE IS THE PATHWAY TO PROMISE

Hebrews 6:11-12 (NLT) - Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent…
  • Loving others well for the long haul is directly tied to fulfilled hope.
  • The writer urges believers to “keep on loving others” so that what they hope for will come true.
  • Love is one of the most important components of walking toward God’s promises.
  • God does not call us to chase promises while neglecting people.
  • Many people want God’s promises without God’s process. That process includes loving people faithfully, consistently, and sacrificially.
  • God often develops the character needed for the promise through the people He calls us to love.
  • Faith believes God’s promise, endurance keeps walking toward it, and love keeps our hearts right along the way.
  • We do not inherit God’s promises by becoming self-focused, cold, or indifferent. We inherit His promises by continuing in faith, endurance, and love.

Galatians 6:9-10 (NLT) - So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

  • The harvest comes to those who do not quit doing good.
  • Love matters deeply to God. It keeps our hearts soft, our faith active, and our lives aligned with His promises.

closing QUESTION

What is one thing you learned from today’s lesson that you will apply this week?

GIVING

Giving generously ensures that we will have all that we need and that we become channels through which God's abundance flows to the lives of others.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
