TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Romans 12:1-8 NLT 1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. 3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

What did you learn from what we just read?

TRUTH #1

The Call to Offer Ourselves as Living Sacrifices

  • Paul teaches us believers to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This act of dedication involves a complete transformation and renewal of the mind.
  • The phrase “a living sacrifice” is a metaphor for a surrendered life, fully committed to God's will and service.

Romans 12:1 (NLT) - "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him."

  • Offering ourselves as living sacrifices is an act of worship.
  • It requires a renewal of the mind, a transformation in our thinking, and a commitment to God's will.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

What does it mean for you to offer yourself completely to God, and how does this connect with how you worship Him?

TRUTH #2

Unity and Diversity in the Body of Christ

  •  Paul emphasizes that the body of Christ is made up of many members, each with different functions. We should use our spiritual gifts to serve one another in unity.
  • Spiritual gifts are special abilities and talents given by the Holy Spirit to believers for the benefit of the Church.

Romans 12:4-6 (NLT) - "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well."

  • The diversity of spiritual gifts within the body of Christ edifies the Church.
  • Each member's unique role contributes to the overall health and functioning of the body.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONS

How have you seen the diversity of spiritual gifts benefiting the church or community, and how can you begin to contribute with your gifts?

TRUTH #3

Using Our Gifts with Dedication and Love

  • Paul encourages believers to use their spiritual gifts with dedication and genuine love. He provides examples of different gifts and exhorts believers to exercise them faithfully.

Romans 12:6-8 (NLT) - "In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly."

  • Using our spiritual gifts with dedication involves commitment and persistence.

CLOSING QUESTION

What is one thing you have learned from today’s lesson?

GIVING

The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.

Luke 6:38 (NLT)
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.
