a leadership meeting with jesus

LEADERSHIP TRUTH: JESUS DID LEADERSHIP TRAINING WITH HIS DISCIPLES AND SO SHOULD WE.

  • We don’t just make disciples. We make disciples that make disciples.

  • Our mission is to make everyone of our disciples a D.G leader.

  • We should take everyone of our disciples from a place of living for Christ to reproducing for Christ.
Mark 10:42-45 (NLT) 42 So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

QUICK LEADERSHIP LESSON:

lesson #1

THE WORLDLY LEADERS LEAD DIFFERENT THAN CHRISTIAN LEADERS.

A. THE WORLD LEADS BY FORCE.

  • They use their titles and authority to force people to do what they want them to do.
Lord: (katakyrieuo) control, subdue, to be the master of, exercise dominion over, to bring under one’s
power, to hold in subjection,

B. WORLDLY LEADERS ARE “POSITIONAL LEADERS”.

  • A positional leader always reminds those who they are leading that they are the boss and uses rules, threats and money to influence their people to do what they want them to.

  • The people only follow because they have to not because they want to.

  • Those underneath a Worldly leader never feel that their leader cares about them, they feel that he uses them as a tool to get what he wants to get done or to promote their own self interest.

  • A positional leader will say, "Pastor Marco" said to get people to do what they want them to do because they have no personal influence themselves.

lesson #2

THE WORLDLY LEADERS LEAD DIFFERENT THAN CHRISTIAN LEADERS.

  • We lead to serve the people. The goal of Godly leadership is to develop, add value, meet the needs, help those they are leading to become everything that God created them to be.

  • Godly leadership is not self serving but it’s mission is to serve and benefit those that God has given them the privilege to lead and steward on His behalf.
Servant: (diakonos) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties), a minister, an attendant, one who advances others interest even at the sacrifice of their own, one who does what promotes the welfare and prosperity of the church, those who God carries His administration on earth, teachers of the Word, one who executes the commands of others, , a servant of a King, (we serve others as we are serving our Lord and Savior, “As unto the Lord.”), one who cares for the poor and has charge of distributes the money collected for their use, one who raises dust by hastening, a volunteer (serve with an attitude of gratitude and humility)

Insight: Never enter a room with a Boss mentality but with a servant mentality. “I am here to serve not be served, I am here to
minister not be ministered to.”

A. CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP IS “PERMISSIONAL LEADERSHIP”

  • It doesn’t depend on titles to lead but it is based on building trust.

  • They know that true leadership and influence must be earned.

  • The goal of a permissional leader is for those that they are leading to give them the permission to lead them because they have been convinced that their leader truly has the best interest for them.
B. IN ORDER TO LEAD LIKE JESUS WE BECOME THEIR “SERVANT” NOT THEIR “BOSS/LORD”.

  • In order to lead like Jesus, we must become their “Servant” not their boss/Lord.

  • A servant leader bows before the people and washes their feet.

  • He doesn’t demand that the people bow down to them and serve Him/Her.

  • This is the only type of leadership that God blesses.
John 13:3-5, 14-17 (NLT) Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.. . 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

      lesson #3

A SERVANT LEADER IS WILLING TO GIVE UP THEIR LIVES AS A SACRIFICIAL OFFERING TO ADVANCE AND DEVELOP THE PEOPLE TO BECOME LIKE JESUS.

      • A servant leader wins when the people that they are leading, are growing, overcoming, maturing, are fruitful and become servant and loving leaders themselves.

      • We know we are succeeding when we are producing servant leaders that disciples others to be servant leaders.

      • Full circle leadership.

      • A servant leaders leads by example, he never asks the people to sacrifice what they are not willing to sacrifice.

      • We will reproduce what we are not just what we teach.

      • Jesus didn’t just teach it, He lived it.

      • He served everyone of us at the highest level, He gave His life as ransom.
      A. SERVANT LEADERSHIP UNSELFISHLY AND LOVINGLY SEEKS THE BEST FOR OTHERS.

      • Unselfishly seeking the best for others is a leadership command. It’s not an option.

      • The only way to lead like Christ is to sacrificially serve the people and always seek their best interest.
John 15:12 (AMP) “This is My commandment, that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you.

      B. SERVANT LEADERSHIP LOVINGLY LAYS DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THE PEOPLE JUST LIKE JESUS DID.

John 15:13-14... (AMP) No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you keep on doing what I command you.

      Insight:
      “Servant leadership” is “Loving Leadership.”

      C.
THE GREATEST APOSTLE THAT EVER LIVED LEAD WITH THE SAME SACRIFICIAL ATTITUDE AND LOVE THAT JESUS LEAD WITH.

Philippians 2:17 (AMP) 17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith [for preaching the message of salvation, still I rejoice and share my joy with you all.

      Conclusion:

      • Jesus was making it a point that leadership must be done in the right spirit or it won’t produce the results that He desires to produce.

      • The product is not a goal accomplished but a person developed to be like Jesus.

      • Of course we set goals, create clear objectives but we must not forget that our mission is to make loving Disciples of Jesus Christ.

      • Disciples that are loving, kind, fruitful and most of all like Christ.

      • Now let’s Develop D.G Leaders, that are Servant leaders just like Jesus was.
