- We lead to serve the people. The goal of Godly leadership is to develop, add value, meet the needs, help those they are leading to become everything that God created them to be.
- Godly leadership is not self serving but it’s mission is to serve and benefit those that God has given them the privilege to lead and steward on His behalf.
Servant: (diakonos) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties), a minister, an attendant, one who advances others interest even at the sacrifice of their own, one who does what promotes the welfare and prosperity of the church, those who God carries His administration on earth, teachers of the Word, one who executes the commands of others, , a servant of a King, (we serve others as we are serving our Lord and Savior, “As unto the Lord.”), one who cares for the poor and has charge of distributes the money collected for their use, one who raises dust by hastening, a volunteer (serve with an attitude of gratitude and humility)
Insight: Never enter a room with a Boss mentality but with a servant mentality. “I am here to serve not be served, I am here to
minister not be ministered to.”
A. CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP IS “PERMISSIONAL LEADERSHIP”
- It doesn’t depend on titles to lead but it is based on building trust.
- They know that true leadership and influence must be earned.
- The goal of a permissional leader is for those that they are leading to give them the permission to lead them because they have been convinced that their leader truly has the best interest for them.
B. IN ORDER TO LEAD LIKE JESUS WE BECOME THEIR “SERVANT” NOT THEIR “BOSS/LORD”.
- In order to lead like Jesus, we must become their “Servant” not their boss/Lord.
- A servant leader bows before the people and washes their feet.
- He doesn’t demand that the people bow down to them and serve Him/Her.
- This is the only type of leadership that God blesses.
John 13:3-5, 14-17 (NLT) Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.. . 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.
