PRACTICES OF A MULTIPLYING DISCIPLE-MAKER
PRACTICE #1 - MULTIPLICATION THINKING
Genesis 1:28 (NLT) - Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth…”
- Our God is a multiplication thinker.
- He commanded mankind to multiply.
- Fruit is what we reproduce.
- Multiplication is what we reproduce through those who we have trained, taught, and discipled.
- First, we are fruitful, then we multiply.
Genesis 35:11 (ESV) - And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body.
- God is still thinking multiplication more than 2,000 years later.
PRACTICE #2 - SEES LEADERSHIP IN OTHERS AND CALLS IT OUT.
Judges 6:12 (NIV) - When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
- A multiplying disciple-maker recruits people to the leadership table and training.
PRACTICE #3 - TRAINS LEADERS TO LEAD.
Exodus 18:25 (ERV) - Moses chose good men from among the Israelites. He made them leaders over the people. There were rulers over 1000 people, 100 people, 50 people, and ten people.
- A multiplying disciple-maker develops leaders to develop leaders.
- Helps develop a leader’s mindset.
- First, we conceive, believe and then achieve.
PRACTICE #4 - SEND/LAUNCH LEADERS TO LEAD.
Romans 10:15 (NLT) - And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?
Matthew 10:5-8 (NLT) - 5 Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions… Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. 7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!
- Success is defined by who you develop and send, not what you do.
- When Jesus healed the sick, raised, the dead, etc., He was being fruitful.
- When He sent the disciples to do the same, He was multiplying!
Matthew 28:19 (NLT) - Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…
- Jesus had a worldwide vision for His disciples.
