GREAT “POWER” COMES WITH THE GREAT COMMISSION.

THE GREAT COMMISSION IS FOUND IN TWO SCRIPTURES

Matthew 28:19-20 (AMP) 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”

Mark 16:15-20 (AMP) 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed in Me and has been baptized will be saved from the penalty of God’s wrath and judgment; but he who has not believed will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up
serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord was working with them and confirming the word by the signs that followed.

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY ABOUT THE “POWER” THAT COMES WITH THE GREAT COMMISSION?

#1

JESUS NEVER SENDS US OUT TO FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION
WITHOUT GIVING US HIS POWER AND AUTHORITY TO DO SO.

Luke 9:1-2 (NLT) One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons l and to heal all diseases. 2 Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

“POWER”: (dynamis- doo-nimus) endued (gifted) power, the strength power and ability of Jesus Christ, power to perform miracles, moral power, power to love and live like Christ, power to bare the fruit of the spirit, power and influence which belong to the rich and wealthy, power resting on armies, supernatural abundance, the resurrection power of Jesus, the power of God, power to heal disease

“Authority”: (exousia) delegated power of rule and influence, the power of him whose will and commands must be submitted to by demons and obeyed, superhuman abilities, power to decide a matter (this how it is going to go down), the ability, capacity and weight which Jesus exhibited in His teachings and ministry, power to subdue, drive out and destroy.

#2

JESUS BAPTIZES US WITH HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO EMPOWER US TO TELL
PEOPLE ABOUT HIM AND MAKE DISCIPLES EVERYWHERE WE GO.

Jesus gives us the promised gift of the Holy Spirit to empower us to tell people about Him.

Acts 1:8 (AMP) But you will receive “power” and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses ,to tell people about Me, both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

Witnesses: (martys-mar-toos) one who testifies or bears testimony of the truth of God’s Word and Works especially regarding Salvation offered through faith in Jesus Christ, one who has personally experienced and affirms Jesus life, death and resurrection often at great personal cost, those who have proved their genuineness of faith in Christ by undergoing a violent death, a martyr.

Summary: being a witness involves actively proclaiming the Good News of Jesus and living an obedient Christ centered life. Being like Christ in character , love, words, attitude, and mission.
